HANNOVER,
GERMANY, EARLY
1900s
"Cafe Kroepcke"
This cafe was located just half a block from
the Opera House (right-rear). It was frequented by many, not only
before or after performances, but all the time for breakfast, lunch and
evening fare.
Note the policemen on horseback wearing the
Kaiser-style helmut. You can see that those in the picture are of the
middle and upper class of their day.
The clock was destroyed in WWII, but has since
been reconstructed. Today, a new Cafe Kroepcke stands in the place of
the old one and the area is now a pedestrian street.
