German "Castle" of Mary Heineken, sister of C.A. Heineken
of
Millpark
HISTORY:
- Mary Parker Heineken (1849-1925) married a Russian born German,
Johann Emil Plate (1845-1914).
- Johann became very wealthy from investments in African gold mines
- The house above was where Mary and Johann lived in Germany
(reflecting their great wealth)
- Mary outlived Johann, and before she died, she willed this house
to be used as a center to care for the mentally and physically disabled
- Eventually as World War II started, Hitler tossed out the
disabled and let some of his high command live in this house
- The Allies, trying to get at the high command, bombed this house
into oblivion.
